Spring Stride In!

I have been feeling the change in the air. Have you?

Border Collie ACEO - Holiday ideas - by Susan Alison who's fed up with the cold...

Monty: Ahhh - it's the time of year when one's thoughts turn to holidays...
Rosie: I'll be happy with a trip to the country to feel the wind in my fur, smell those country smells, chase a few sh... er, shquirrels.
Monty: Blimey, Rosie - that's almost poetic. But, which country?
Rosie: This one, of course.
Monty: You're in a rut!
Rosie - snrunch!
Monty: Arooooo!
(Susan: Just a footnote to say that in no way do we approve of sheep chasing. That was just Rosie's little slip up. She's been playing too many video games.)

Giving Thanks to My Friends

I am constantly amazed at the wonderful, talented and supportive artists in this world. For any of you reading this, you are so appreciated and I am so thankful to be in your midst.

As many of you know, all of the changes with ebay have sent many of us scrambling for better opportunities and traveling roads we have never been down before. At first, it was hard for me to think of other venues, but I have learned that it is truly a necessity!

Recently, I have found etsy to be a sweet place to be. I just opened a shop there this month and am very excited about the possibilities. The address is http://www.artistrhonda.etsy.com/ and I would love for you to come visit me there. If you decide to drop by, please email me and let me know what you think of the shop. I plan on listing more there as soon as I can get back to my paintbrushes!
With warm regards,
Rhonda

Love all you ACEO guys & gal enthusiasts!

This is what I love about you all - there is always someone around to give suggestions and support and advice, given freely.

Yes, I'm starting to step more towards other venues, and all venues you have ACEOs listed can be supplied as links here.

Exploring Venues

First of all to Christine, I'm very sorry about your retaliatory feedback. :0( I hope your customers read the comments and realize that they say much more about that seller then they do about you.

I'm not sure if this is a phenomenon that is shared with other artists, or if I'm just weird, but I have many styles in which I love to create. No matter how much I enjoy one style, I still feel the need to try others, and continually am trying out new mediums and subjects. The last year has seen me turn out angel cats, and mercats, green man, ordinary cats, Midnight the Wonder Cat, dogs, dragons, ducklings and even a lone chimp. The styles I paint in vary from the most cartoony to my best attempt at realism. The mediums I used span the whole art supply store. In short, creatively I'm a mixed bag.

With this in mind I am beginning move around some of my art to different venues. At each venue I'm attemping to build a more cohesive inventory of items that share more in common. Etsy has become my preferred venue for my realism and watercolors. Ebay is where I test the waters for new things, and where Midnight has his loyal following, and the new venue is yet untested. I'm not sure what people will be looking for at that site so I am testing the waters with one little Midnight model, and I'll be listing other items later on.

Beware the Seller who makes money off high shipping costs

You know what? I'm getting so irritated with mean nasty people out there that leave retaliatory feedback for no reason at all. Mean.

I bought three items in the last few weeks. I paid for them immediately but asked first, hey...can you combine shipping? I mean really...I've been on eBay for years and know the game (my other account heather-sky-studio, where I sell my original art) and have really worked hard to make sure that I am commiserate with current shipping costs. Most of the time I've eaten the difference and under charged.

So here I have this other account. I buy some goods, pay for them right away. I leave a postitive feedback to the seller, though warn other potential buyers of high shipping costs and no real break. They sent me the package for flat shipping at 9 dollars and charged me 25.

Then they come back and leave me three negatives!!??? WOW!

Let me get this straight:

I buy their goods
I ask for combine shipping they will only give me 5 off
Ok, I pay for it right away
I get the package wow, it's 9 bucks not the 25 I paid
I leave a POSITIVE feedback, with warning of high shipping.

Then I get three NEGATIVES.

Does this seem retaliatory to you guys? I mean wow...I'm kinda bummed.

*sigh*

Thanks for reading this far. I guess there isn't much I can do but warn people to be very very careful. VERY very careful.

Did I make the point yet to be really aware...and careful.

...........................................................................................................

Follow up::

I've had a small amount of conversation with the seller and they will not withdraw the negative feedback left to me. Never mind they are mean spirited and don't like to be called on their crooked business practice of charging astronomical shipping fees.

I left three positives stating item as described, shipping too high. They retaliated with three negatives. Then just said good luck dealing with eBay, almost knowing nothing will be done. I've reported this...we'll see where it goes. I'm very unhappy that this can even happen.

Details of the transaction etc are above.

Buyers, be very very careful! :-( Bad apples out there.

Since I can't use their seller name on eBay or my eBay blog there (my user name there for my antiques and collectibles -- christine-wasankari)

I CAN do it here.

Do NOT buy from this seller for anything! http://stores.ebay.com/Scrap-Things

Once again...these people are crooked and retaliatory. Be very careful.

Support ALL self representing artists ...

This blog has been set up as a showcase of ACEOs, but also I don't want it to be where people feel censored.

Yes, eBay has stopped being fun to sell at for at least 12+ months, with so many changes and glitches, but it is definitely the venue for ACEOs, after all, it is in the groups there that ACEOs were founded.

With the proposed changes, we ARE changing by EXPANDING to other venues to 'test the waters'. I have long been on Café Press, Art by Us, and even Etsy, and this blog DOES allow links to ALL these venues where artists currently have listings, as well as personal websites and blogs.

This blog should not be about swaying people one way or another, but directing people to enjoy our art, and seek us out (no matter where we hang our art), seeing us as dedicated artists. Without our buyers we would not exist, we would fade into the background.

I am always in awe of the vision and full of wonder at the original creations as they appear, we have such talented people.

Some of us HAVE to rely on sales of our art to get by, so please be mindful that some of our listings on eBay are because we NEED the sales. So, should you see something you love, please don't decide not to just because of the eBay 'boycott', you could be the one person who really makes that artist jump with joy because you overcame all objections to just buy a piece of art you love, and put some much needed cash in their pockets!

Thank you again, for your support of ACEOs.
Thank you for viewing this blog.
I KNOW you'll enjoy the art.

(This page shows all my current selling venues, including commissions and direct sales, though I'm not sure if I'll stay with wagglepop.)

A New Hope

With the proposed changes at eBay, artists along with many sellers who are unhappy with the situation at the monopoly, are moving away to sell, and also buy at new alternative venues. Ebay have destroyed the community feel, that was once the big attraction to both buyers and sellers, where big retailers who have been recruited by eBay who seems resolutely set on its move to a department store approach.

I moved away from eBay to new locations 18 months ago, a move that I don't regret. Many others are now waking up to the fact that they are working for eBay rather than eBay helping them to work, with the never ending escalation of fees and their failure to deal with scammers. So you may want to check out Tazbar or eBid. A New Hope that buying and selling will once again be fun.

There is a seller boycott of Ebay from 18th -25th February, so if you were thinking of buying or selling there, why not support the sellers, and try out some of the alternatives. You can see a list of other auction sites Here

There is an exciting new art only venue due to be launched with all your favourite artists so check back later for more details.

Embrace Adventure

This card was created out of a vintage cigar top that was found, like so many of my favoriate materials......and then collaged with , a vintage postage stamp, lettering and distress inks on the side.....inspired to do a "pirate theme" this week because last year my son who is disabled learned about pirates when we went to Disneyland and the actor playing Captain Jack was so-o-o-o great to him...and then all of the sudden he started noticing everything "pirates" and so this was a fun theme to try and interpert in ACEO format. You can check out my eBAY listings for more pirate themed cards my membername is TradingJane.

Piazza San Carlo - Turin - Italy - ACEO

ACEO ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR 2,5 x 3,5 inches
Winsor & Newton on Watercolor 140 lbs/300gms Arches Cold pressed paper

San Carlo Square (Piazza San Carlo), is one of the most famouse squares of Italy,
it's in the center of Turin (Torino) town and it's friendly called "Turin's lounge"

The square was projected by Carlo di Castellamonte in the 17th century,
but was enriched one century later by the architect Benedetto Alfieri.

In the middle rises the equestrian statue of the
Duke Emanuele Filiberto (by Carlo Marocchetti - 1838).

The square has a rectangular shape and on the long sides are the two twins palaces called Solaro del Borgo.

On the south side are two churches attibuted to the Castellamonte Architect.

The whole square is surrounded by porticoes where now are many famouse fashion-shops and old cafeteries.
After a great restoration the square has rised to a new youth in the last years and trafic
is not allowed now this is why each time I pass through it I love to feel the ancient
air you can breathe in this corner of history.

Black Beauty

This is a Scratchboard Butterfly. Scratchboard is the art of taking away. You start with a black inked surface (with ACEOs I use Scratchpaper it is a thick card not a board like with the larger works) and you scratch the light areas away to get the look you want with a sharp tool.
